V Robinson’s paintings are underpinned by an interest in the formal elements of paintings; shape, line, texture and colour. Rather than reverting to abstraction as a method of visualising
these interests, she has developed her own painting style which fuses both
abstract and representational elements. She looks to
the outside world for ideas for composition and mark making, such as:
mid-century interiors, architecture, urban landscapes and films. These images
are deconstructed and placed on the canvas/ paper as abstracted components. The
reference material is used until a certain point, and then the remainder of the
painting is finished intuitively.
